There are all sorts of bongs for sale that you can buy, and depending on what your preferences and budget are, there is no shortage of what you can get yourself into if you take a long look around your local head shop or even just online. Today I’ll dive into what I feel is one of the best smoking experiences out there, the ice bong.
How Do Ice Bongs Work?
A bong that has tiny notches in the neck of the device allowing it to contain ice cubes that are involved in the path the smoke travels is typically described as an ice bong.
Some people will refer to this contraption as an “ice catcher.”
The reason I enjoy these types of bongs so much is that they do a great job at cooling off the smoke prior to it getting to my mouth or lungs. Long after the ice is melted, the water in the bong becomes a chilled temperature, making every hit as cool and smooth as a cucumber.
Ice bongs can come in many formats, including glass, acrylic, and even in pipes.
Why Do People Use Ice Bongs?
Most people, myself included, like using ice bongs because the heat is generally lost as the smoke filters past the cooled off bong water and after passing over the ice cubes.
While normal smoking devices provide a hit that comes with some serious heat, this is quite the opposite. Replace that hot sensation with a refreshing toke that turns to smoke. I think the inhalation process is much more pleasant, and have to think this is better than the smoky heat for the lungs, mouth, and throat. I’m sure anyone who has tried hitting one of these will agree whole heartedly. Sometimes after a big rip off a bong I just get that burning sensation and taste in my throat, and the after taste isn’t something I enjoy.
The taste will also be different. It’s hard to describe in words, but let’s just say that instead of combustion and heat, I feel a lot more flavor from the actual herb itself.
