A number of states in the US have legalized marijuana for recreational use, and the numbers are slowly rising with some of the states allowing only the use of medicinal marijuana. Given the different benefits of recreational marijuana like feeling relaxed, joy, increased appetite, and meditation, etc, marijuana has quite a unique and sublime experience.
Some states have legalized medical marijuana only, meaning that there are limitations of usage for the drug, but some have fully legalized it. Here is a list of the marijuana-friendly states where you can have uninhibited fun.
What Will I Learn?
Marijuana Friendly States
Alaska is one of the states where you can enjoy recreational marijuana. The state legalized recreational marijuana back in 2014, alongside Oregon. You can only use marijuana if you are over 21 years, and dispensaries here will only sell you recreational weed if you have attained that age. Also, if you like an occasional buzz throughout the day, you can only possess or carry not more than one ounce.
If you love both the idea of smoking and growing marijuana, you can plant up to three mature plants in your residence. Also, you can freely enjoy a blunt or two in some of the dispensaries there since Alaska legalized on-site smoking at dispensaries in 2019, before any other state did so.
California made medical marijuana in 1996, making it the first state to do so. And from 2016, carrying and using recreational marijuana was made legal, but only up to one ounce at a go. Being a hotspot for tourists, California also has a large number of marijuana tourists every year.
Los Angeles, being the biggest city in the state, is a hub for a lot of marijuana enthusiasts, bot residents and travelers from other states and countries. With oodles of dispensaries that offer on-site smoking, it is a great way to mingle with other cannabis lovers and have a fun time.
Just like most states, California also has a few restrictions concerning the use of the drug, and only allows individuals to buy marijuana concentrates of about up to 8 grams, and smoking in public spaces is prohibited.
The age restriction for buying and using marijuana is 21 years. As well, you can only grow 6 marijuana plants in your house, and some cities like Bakersfield and Fresno have banned the sale of recreational marijuana.
Either way, California is a great place to enjoy recreational marijuana and you can even get it delivered by services like Cannvi. Talk about forward-thinking!
Marijuana was fully legalized in Colorado in 2012 and since then, dispensaries have sprouted all over the city. As long as you are 21 years or above, you can enjoy recreational marijuana from any dispensary, even if you are a tourist.
The allotted amount legal for possession for individuals is one ounce and no more, there are is a $100 fine for possessing more than 1 ounce to 2 ounces of cannabis. On the brighter side, if you feel like sharing what you have with friends for no financial gain, then no law will be held against you, as this is illegal in some states.
Maine is yet one of the most marijuana-friendly states to be in. Unlike most states that allow individuals of over 21 years to possess a maximum of one ounce of marijuana, this state allows possession of up to 2.5 ounces. In addition, you can grow up to 6 marijuana plants in your household.
The less strict marijuana laws make Maine a great place for cannabis lovers to enjoy and have maximum fun.
Massachusetts first legalized recreational marijuana in 2016. This legalization allowed individuals to carry and use not more than an ounce of marijuana. There are different dispensaries you can walk into if you are 21 years and above to buy recreational marijuana.
The maximum amount of marijuana you can keep is 10 ounces, and if you are a home-grower, then a maximum of six plants is allowed.
Michigan was the 10th state to legalize marijuana for recreational use. This was in 2018, where the bill allows adults above 21 years to carry a maximum of 2.5 ounces of marijuana and grow up to 12 plants.
When compared to most states, marijuana laws are somehow less strict, making it a great place for marijuana enthusiasts and lovers.
Apart from carrying a maximum of 2.5 ounces and buying up to an ounce of marijuana, adults in Nevada can also share no more than an ounce of marijuana, as long as they are 21 years and above.
Home growers can also have a maximum of 12 plants in their household, but there is a twist. To qualify for a license to grow marijuana, you will have to be as far apart as 25 miles from the nearest dispensary.
Regardless of the marijuana laws in Nevada, you will still have free and easy fun considering that you can also buy cannabis edibles not exceeding an eighth of an ounce. A fun fact about Nevada is that most of the marijuana stores ran out of the drug in under two weeks after it was legalized for recreational purposes in 2017.
Oregonians are also part of the bandwagon of those who can now enjoy recreational marijuana. The maximum quantity of marijuana you can carry around is one ounce, and you can grow up to four plants in your residence as long as you are above 21 years.
Further, you can share marijuana edibles, just make sure that they are not consumed in public in order to avoid risking a penalty.
These and other states have legalized recreational marijuana, creating an environment for cannabis enthusiasts to have uninhibited fun. So whether you are a resident or plan on visiting some of the states, you can be assured of the most pleasurable moments and amazing cannabis products.
Even better, there are cannabis dispensaries and bars that have lounges where people can smoke and enjoy cannabis together. While some states still have tight marijuana usage rules despite having legalized it, in the near future things will change and people will be able to enjoy marijuana freely.
