How to Take CBD Oil

We’re in the early stages of cannbidiol use for medicinal and healing purposes.  I’d love to think that the recent waves of press this industry is getting is going to steam roll CBD into the mainstream soon, but the fact remains many people are still have questions about how to take CBD Oil, and what are it’s benefits?  Today I’ll touch on the proper CBD dosage to help you get a better understanding of what you need to be looking for and so that you can shop like a savvy veteran!

CBD Oil Dosage Recommendations

Medical professionals as well as researchers are in the very early stages of formulating dosage recommendations for medicinal hemp, CBD, and medical marijuana.  According to this website, physicians by and large aren’t very keen on urging their patients to take CBD supplements and there are two very big reasons why:

#1:  There is no USRDA (recommended daily allowance) established.

#2:  The drug curriculum at medical schools don’t teach CBD therapy.  With a lack of education in their pharmacology courses, the curriculum and teachings remain focused on substances that can be patented.

In fact, the only CBD product that has approval by the FDA is a prescription oil called Epidiolex.

With the lack of a recommended dose, it’s very difficult to cover the topic of how much CBD oil you should be consuming.  With that said, this is NOT medical advice, it’s simply a guide for novice users who are thinking of buying CBD oils for the first time or for those who have experimented with them but have many looming questions about CBD dosages.

Every Person is Different

I can’t stress this enough, as there are many variables that come into play here, including:

  • Weight
  • Metabolism
  • Diet
  • Genetic make-up
  • Where you live
  • Which product(s) you purchase

Creating one simply dosage plan for all CBD Oil users is like making one workout program for everyone who is trying to get healthy.

Would you create the same workout plan for a 400 pound man who has never done anything actively as you would for someone who is 180 pounds of 8% body fat and trying to get it down to 6%?

That answer is quite obviously NO, but it’s a good way to think about how one would go about advising someone on taking CBD oils in doses without knowing anything about them.

First time users should start with the minimal CBD dosages and then elevate their dose until they are happy with the results they are getting.

25mg of CBD taken twice daily is considered the standard starting point.

You can increase this amount every 3-4 weeks by 25mg increments until your symptoms subside or you feel better.  It’s always smart to document your consumption in a journal so that you can have data on what works, and what you consumed.

It’s also very important to know that the CBD quality can range from brand to brand.  For this reason you may experience different results, even though you take the same CBD dosages, if you hop around from various CBD companies and use different products.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

There is a ton of HORRIBLE information online about this topic, so I always take the very cautious route when touching on this. I’ve seen some very outlandish claims to be made saying things like “take one dropper,” or “estimate on your body weight,” which is just flat out bad information.

Again, this is a topic that I suggest you troubleshoot for yourself, starting with a very small amount like 25mg and then working your way up as you start feeling better, but for the sake of professional and responsible journalism, I’m going to cite a lot of things that the Mayo Clinic cites.

Choose Your Favorite Consumption Method

There is no right or wrong answer!  Do what makes sense for you and your lifestyle, but make sure to follow the dosage instructions when taking any CBD products.

Personally, I’m a fan of tinctures during the day, and the gummies at night.  I’ve been known to get into the THC edibles when I can get them at Planet 13 in Las Vegas (a must see), and have sampled everything from rice crispy treats to lollipops!  (And of course, just about everything in between.)

CBD Oil Tincture Dosing Advice

You should see a clear indication of how much the suggested serving size is listed on the packaging.  If they don’t have this information, that’s a major red flag!  Using the dropper, place the drops under your tongue and hold in place for 60 seconds or more so it can be absorbed by the blood vessels.  Swallow after 60 seconds.

CBD Vapes Dosing Advice

This will get you a quick result.  Inhaling will deliver the CBD’s to your brain and body.  Simply choose your CBD vape pen of choice, and inhale slowly.

Dosage Amounts for CBD Edibles

This is fun, because you simply open your edible of choice (mine are gummies) and enjoy them.  It’ll take longer to get the effects, however.  In some cases I’ve had THC gummies that have taken as long as two full hours to kick in.  While the waiting period sucks, it’s a great result when it hits you!

CBD Concentrates and Isolates Dosages

If you’ve smoked hash or use the wax you’ll know about this.  Sprinkle it into a vaporizer or water bong, (or pipe), light, and toke.  This is going to hit you quite rapidly as well.
