Firefly Vapor has recently released their second version of their portable powerful, highly sought after vaporizer named the Firefly 2.
This company first stepped on the scene in 2012 in San Francisco. Their original version of the Firefly was absolutely game changing as far as heat up times was concerned.
Guess what? The Firefly 2 heats up much faster than the original if you can imagine it. Your vaping session can begin in as many as 3 to 5 seconds with the FF2.
Do you know what else was great about the original model? The maintenance and upkeep were very simple. With the second iteration upkeep and maintenance has gotten even better believe it or not and it’s truly one of my favorite portables.
On another positive note, I’m happy to let you know that Firefly Vapor has gone above and beyond with version number two and they’ve addressed previous complaints with the original including weight, size, and battery life. So, if you have a burning desire to get your hands on a portable convection vape with the cleanest taste available, then the Firefly 2 is the ideal choice.
Just like the original, this is a great unit for those looking for a smooth temperature and a first-class taste.
To reiterate, the heat up time with the Firefly 2 is nearly instant. So it’s definitely ideal for anyone who wants to start a session really quickly. It’s also great for t
hose looking to split bowls for more than one session at varying times.
At the moment, it costs $329 to get the Firefly 2. They are offering a two-year warranty as well, and you can find this convection vaporizer online at the best retailers.
Accessories
The beauty of the latest version of the FF is it comes with two batteries that can be easily swapped in and out when needed. This is hardly the case when buying other convection vaporizers.
You’ll also get access to the cleaning kit. The kit includes a multi-sided brush, two plastics toothpicks swords, and a few alcohol wipes. It also comes with concentrate pads and a USB charging dock as well.
Android and IOS App for Firefly 2
At this time, you can currently access the Firefly 2 app on android and iOS devices. Connection to the device takes place via Bluetooth. You can use the app in a number of different ways including: changing the unit settings, checking how much life is left in the battery, and you can even use the app to change temperatures on the convection vaporizer.
There are five temperature settings on the Firefly 2 for dry herbs. Those settings include 340, 360, 380, 400, and 420°F. For those using Celsius, the temperatures are 171, 182, 193, 204, and 215°C. The device also has a setting for 500°F a.k.a. 260°C.
Battery Specifications
One of the biggest drawbacks of the original Firefly was the poor battery life. Fortunately, the Firefly 2 has dramatically improved in this area. Not only has their heating efficiency improved, but the battery life has improved by leaps and bounds as well.
For the most part, for dry herbs I have been able to get six bowls per charge. And per bowl I can typically get 6 to 8 draws for 30 to 45 seconds each. The battery life reduces a little bit more when vaping concentrates, so keep that in mind.
At the end of the day, the bowls per charge ratio is really positive with the updated version of the Firefly. But the added battery that can be swapped in and out make the battery situation that much better. But best of all, the batteries charge very quickly and they are charged 80% of the way in about 20 minutes. A full charge typically takes 45 to 50 minutes.
Firefly 2 Heater and Vapor Path
As far as the heating settings are concerned, this device can use six different heat settings and it’s made up of a borosilicate glass bowl and a 50 W heater. Out of the six settings, five of them are for dry herbs and the additional setting is there for concentrates. Even better, the Firefly 2 can reach 400°F a.k.a. 204°C in a mere three seconds. Even better, it can reach 420°F a.k.a. 215°C in five seconds flat.
With the glass bowl, you can expect it to transfer a very low amount of heat. You can put your finger on the chamber, raise the temperature up to its maximum degrees, and then press the trigger for 10 seconds. Guess what? Your finger is only going to feel a little bit warm and nothing more. That’s why it’s an efficient unit and can break single bowls into more than one session. The herbs only heat up while drawing and never at any other time.
The bottom of the bowl for version 2 uses a 55 hole pattern. It also increases airflow by using larger air intakes. But just like the original model, the new model gives off a faint glow as the temperatures ramp up, which is honestly very cool looking. On the other hand, if you’re trying to use this device discreetly, it’s also very easy to cover up the glow so no worries there either.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Cleaning and maintenance is very easy with the Firefly 2 vaporizer. In fact, you can go long stretches between cleanings and you will not lose any of the excellent performance. You will notice a buildup on the window though, so keep that in mind. The bowl does not have a screen that needs to be cleaned or replaced. Just use rubbing alcohol on a paper towel to wipe the bowl to clean it out.
Second, you can then wipe down the vapor path on the lid and body of the device. That’s all you have to do for maintenance and cleaning. It will take you less than a minute to finish the entire process.
Truth be told, I vaped bowls 26 times before I noticed performance beginning to slip. The lid buildup made it difficult to fully seal the unit. But after wiping it down very quickly, it worked as good as it did when it was brand-new.
Portability & Size
The great thing about the second version of the FF is it’s lightweight and 55% lighter than the original. It’s also much smaller by about 33%. By switching to a magnesium alloy body and getting rid of the stainless steel, they were capable of making a vaporizer similar to the Air and Crafty.
The unit is also fairly discrete. Why? It heats up nearly instantly so it gives off minimal smell during quick sections. Compared to other vaporizers, it’s very easy to use this one on the DL.
FF2 Summary
After testing this device for over a month, I can tell you that this vaporizer is amazing. I like the incredible flavor best and the cool vapor certainly doesn’t hurt. It’s efficient and enjoyable to use when vaping dry herbs.
