Franco Loja, partly known in the cannabis community for his “Strain Hunters” documentaries, has died at the age of 42.

Strain Hunters released the following statement via Facebook on Monday:

Franco is an icon and helped change so many peoples lives. He will deeply be missed as a brother, father, son, friend and so much more.
“Cannabis is my passion, my bread, my home. I feel it is my duty to make sure this amazing plant is preserved and enjoyed. I am a smoker, a grower, a breeder, and a strain hunter. For life.”
Franco, the Strain Hunter
May 20th 1974 – January 2nd 2017

It is not clear what caused Loja’s death, but it is known he has been traveling with Vice in the Congo. Loja ran Green House Seed Co. with Arjan Roskam, and it is a highly celebrated cannabis seed company.

The cannabis seed company DNA Genetics released a memorial video after learning of Loja’s death.
