Vaporizing is an alternative to traditional smoking, and doesn’t involve combustion like burning tobacco and other herbs. Many believe that the traditional method of burning herbs releases deadly toxins, which are then absorbed through your lungs.

Instead of using combustion, vaporizing uses a heat source to heat your herbs up, essentially “cooking” them. Yet the herbs themselves never actually burn. As a result, toxins are not released. Yet as the herbs are heated up, essential compounds are released, allowing you to inhale them.

In other words, you can extract the essential compounds without having to inhale the deadly toxins.

Not only is vaporizing considered by many to be less harmful than smoking, but it may also be more efficient. When you burn herbs, you actually end up destroying the essential compounds. When you heat the herbs up, however, you can extract more of the essential compounds.

As a result, when you vaporize you can use less of your herbs to extract the same amount of essential compounds. The effects will be the same, however, you’ll need to use less herbs to produce those effects. While a vaporizer costs more money up front than some traditional smoking devices, over the run you can save a lot of money. This makes buying a vaporizer something worth considering and the options are quite enticing.

The Advantages Keep Adding Up

– The vapor produced by vaporizing may be easier on your lungs and throat than smoke

– Less odors are produced than smoke, meaning you won’t have to worry as much about the smell

– Better, more reliable taste of your herbs than smoking

– More control and more consistent experience than smoking

Vaporizing not only allows you to extract essential oils more efficiently, it actually provides a much better experience. The vapor produced is far less harsh than the smoke produced by most traditional smoking methods, while at the same time being more flavorful and pure.

Deciding Between Portable and Desktop

420timesvaporizing2

Convinced by the benefits of vaporizing? Now you have to determine which type of vaporizer you want to purchase and use. There are numerous vaporizers out there, so you’ll have plenty of choices.

The biggest choice comes down to whether or not you want to buy a portable or desktop unit. Both units have their advantages and drawbacks, so you should consider your choice carefully.

The Pros and Cons of Portable Units

As you can probably guess, portable vaporizers are designed for vaporizing on the go. They are small, discrete, and usually powered by batteries.

Advantages

– Discrete and convenient for life on the go

– Simple to use

– Great for individual use

Disadvantages

– Dependent on batteries

– Often less control over temperatures

– Smaller chamber

– Not as good for multiple users

Portable vaporizers can be both for dry herbs and units that are used for concentrates are called wax pens. Some vaporizers like the Utillian 720 even allow for the vaporization of both dry herbs and wax!

The Pros and Cons of Desktop Units

Desktop vaporizers are larger and meant for stationary use. The larger units allow for bigger chambers, meaning you could load up larger amounts of herbs to be vaporized. This will allow you to enjoy longer sessions without interruption, or to enjoy a session with multiple people.

With desktop units you can use different intake methods, such as a whip (essentially a hose). You can also use a balloon or ‘bag’.

Advantages

– Bigger chamber

– Multiple intake methods

– Often more temperature control

– Great for multiple people

Disadvantages

– More complex to use

– Not portable or discrete

– Usually dependent on wall power source

Desktop vaporizers are losing popularity given their stationary nature, much like desktop computers and home phone. With that said, one of the first vaporizers called the Volcano is still the reigning king of the market, despite its large size! You can check out the Volcano Vaporizer review to find out more.

What Features to Look at When Choosing a Vaporizer

There are numerous features that you need to consider when choosing your vaporizer. When it comes to choosing between desktop and portable, the biggest question is whether you want to vaporize at home or on the go.

As for other features, temperature is very important to consider. Generally, for most herbs it’s recommended that you vaporize between 180 degrees Celsius and 215 degrees Celsius.

Lower temperatures will usually produce a thinner but more flavorful vapor. Higher temperatures will produce more potent vapor, but it will be thick but also harsher. This could cause some people to cough. That’s why it’s important to have a vaporizing unit with multiple temperature settings. It will allow you to pick and choose.

Different Temperature Settings

  • Fixed Temperature- There is only one, preset temperature. This means no flexibility.
  • Preset Temperatures- Manufacturers allow you to choose between several preset temperatures.
  • Precise Control- Set the temperature of the unit down to the specific degree.

Precise temperature controls are more likely to be found on desktop units. Fixed temperature units are usually small portable units. Many portable units, however, also feature several preset temperatures.

Precise temperature units usually feature a LCD screen that displays the exact temperature setting. Preset units often use lights.

Understanding Convenience and Use

Some vaporizers can be a bit difficult for the uninitiated to use. This is especially true for desktop units, which may require some assembly. Most portable units come assembled or require minimal assembly.

Another factor to consider is cleaning. It is very important to keep your vaporizer clean. Ease of cleaning can vary considerably from unit to unit, so make sure you do some research and read some reviews.

Different Component Materials

Each vaporizer will be made of numerous different components and parts. Let’s consider some of the parts and material types.

Glass

Glass is a great material for vaporizers. It provides great flavor, has a high melting point, won’t easily overheat, and is very easy to clean.

On the other hand, there are some drawbacks. Most importantly, glass is very fragile and replacement parts can be very expensive. This is especially a worry for portable units.

Metal

Don’t want to deal with fragile glass? Consider metal components. Metal is very durable, and is generally known for providing good vapor quality.

Flavor won’t be as good as glass, however, and you’ll have to be careful while cleaning metal. Do it wrong and you could damage the components.

Silicon/PVC

Silicon/PVC is very durable, and is quite resistant to heat. These robust materials are popular for mouth pieces, but they may produce a strong silicon flavor, especially while you’re breaking the units in.

Plastic

Plastic is becoming a popular material because it provides great flavor and is very durable. Plastic has a lower melting point that other materials, but it is usually higher than the temperatures a vaporizer will produce. Plastic produces a generally good flavor and strong vapor.

Plastic is tricky to clean, however, and can become dirty after extended use. Sometimes, a plastic taste will be produced.

Accessories for you Vaporizer
