Washington Marijuana Industry Group Disbands After First Press Conference

The Safe Access Alliance in Washington has disbanded after firing their press secretary at their first press conference. The group’s President, Kurt Boehl, said Wednesday that the group will dissolve. Boehl said he formed the trade industry organization because he thought there was a need to help marijuana-related businesses in the state, but he and the rest of the board of directors decided it was best to call it quits after the firing spectacle.
Group spokesman Philip Dawdy held the news conference to discuss opposition to the marijuana legalization ballot measure going before voters this fall, Initiative 502. But Boehl said that wasn’t the message he wanted to convey, and he fired Dawdy as the news conference ended.
If an organization’s President and Press Secretary aren’t on the same page, it doesn’t bode well for the organization as a whole. In some cases it’s just better to cut your losses instead of limping along and hurting the cause you are trying to help.
