There are few in national politics that fights for the rights of marijuana users as hard as Colorado Representative Jared Polis (D). In this video he is questioning DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart about the relative health effects of marijuana when compared to other illegal substances.

Her discomfort is palpable as she is stuck between not wanting to admit marijuana is much safer than the drugs it is grouped with and not wanting to look like a moron. It seems she decided to go with the moron route at the start, which is probably for the best since ignorance won’t get you fired in the federal government, but telling the truth very well could. Even later, when she admits some drugs are more addictive than marijuana, she is sure to keep repeating her talking points.

Jared Polis is a great champion of individual rights and hopefully his career in politics is just kicking into gear.
