Movie Review: Ted

As many of our readers – and just about anyone with a TV – know, the movie Ted opened nationwide today. Starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, Ted was co-written and directed by Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, who is also the voice of the teddy bear, Ted.
I saw Ted this afternoon as a hail storm knocked out the power for several hours at The 420 Times HQ East. For Family Guy fans this movie has a lot, including the voice of Meg, Mila Kunis, and the mother of Mark Wahlberg’s character when he is a kid, who is the voice of Louis on FG.
All in all, Ted is a great movie. The premise is silly, but so are a lot of movie premises. The magic bear is explained by just that, magic, much like Harry Potter, Disney films, etc. The comedy is solid and well-timed; it’s not just joke after joke, and it carries an emotional impact as well as you are drawn into the lives of these regular people and a magic stuffed bear. It’s a movie about it being okay to hang onto some things from your childhood; sometimes those things are an integral part of your life forever.
A great cast, fantastic writing and a character that will be a legendary one in movie history someday, Ted is a must see, and not just for cannabis users, for everyone.
