The “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal is ramping up now with Congressional hearings and lawsuits that threaten to topple top officials at the Department of Justice.

On Wednesday the parents of Brian Terry – a border agent killed in 2010 with guns supplied to the Mexican cartels by the U.S. government – filed a $25 million wrongful death lawsuit in an Arizona court in the midst of Congressional hearings probing the role of the Justice Department in the scandal.

It’s no secret that Eric Holder is bad at his job, or that the Justice Department really knows little about actually fighting crime. But this scandal goes deeper than that.

First, we are supposed to believe that enough people though it would be a good idea to send guns to Mexican cartels in order to “track” them that it became the policy of one of our largest agencies.  Then we are supposed to believe that they then forgot to do the “tracking” of the guns that was the purpose of the program in the first place.

Of course, a more likely scenario is that this is all a cover up for some corrupt officials making loads of cash in bribes from the cartels themselves. The ones who weren’t in on it now have to cover for their incompetence in not knowing what was going on. Who is who remains to be seen, but either way, the people killed with these guns are just as dead under any scenario.
