Opponents Of Ban On MMJ Businesses In Fort Collins, CO Might Seek Another Election

As we reported yesterday, voters in Fort Collins, Colorado decided on Tuesday to ban all medical marijuana businesses within the city.
The vote difference that was over 2,000 ended up being 1,490 votes, enough for a 52% to 48% win for supporters of the ban. Opponents were understandably upset at the loss, and say they might bring the issue back before voters in 2012.
As a libertarian I am all for local political control, but as I pointed out yesterday 1) Closing functioning businesses in this economy is madness at best and 2) The discrimination being shown toward medical marijuana patients would never be tolerated if it were aimed at another minority group.
Yet because of the stigma that surrounds cannabis, sick people who choose the safer alternative of medical marijuana are allowed to be treated like second-class citizens and most people won’t say a word about it.
Well, we here at The 420 Times will talk about it as much as needed until we have erased the stigma that permeates the issue every time medical marijuana comes up in a legislature or on a ballot.
