The Obama Administration Declares Open War On Medical Marijuana

Last night shock waves were sent through the cannabis community when the AP reported that the federal government has launched an attack on medical marijuana in California.

In an escalation of the ongoing conflict between the U.S. government and the nation’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry, California’s s four U.S. attorneys sent letters Wednesday and Thursday notifying at least 16 pot shops or their landlords that they are violating federal drug laws, even though medical marijuana is legal in California. The attorneys are scheduled to announce their coordinated crackdown at a Friday news conference.

420times 000012764290XSmall 198x300 The Obama Administration Declares Open War On Medical MarijuanaIt’s odd that The Obama Administration can’t seem to stand up to Republicans or foreign countries or even manage a coherent political strategy in foreign or domestic policy, but they can find the backbone to go after sick people in California.

Barack Obama doesn’t have the faintest idea how to create jobs or end wars, but he does know one thing: he doesn’t like medical marijuana.

Calling “federal efforts to shut down licensed dispensaries in California is a full frontal attack by the Obama Administration,” Kris Hermes at Americans For Safe Access told The 420 Times “it’s unclear if the federal government has the resources or inclination to act on any of these threats, but for the price of postage they are engaged in wholesale intimidation.”

“By shutting down dispensaries, the Obama Administration is pushing legal patients into the illicit market,” Kris said. “In addition to the unnecessary harm this policy brings, it is a tremendous waste of taxpayer dollars at a time of fiscal crisis.”

The Fed crackdown is supposed to be made official today. Barack Obama has been very clear in his dislike for marijuana – at least since his flip-flop on the issue upon taking office – and has been very clear in the fact that he doesn’t care whether sick people have safe and reliable access to medical cannabis.

The millions of cannabis users who voted for Obama in 2008 should no longer care whether he has a job or not. Let him join the millions that have become unemployed since he took office.

Obama is just pissed off because CA didnt legalize crack!!!

  • DankPursuit

Wow, Obama’s daughters and his daughters friends must be really proud! His efforts to continue the ever thriving black market for marijuana is making a lot of criminals prison owners very rich.

  • Taylor

Californians! Ignore this Federal bullying! Nullify this unconstitutional Federal law! Let your Representatives know that you want them to stand up for your rights! Keep up the good fight!

  • America

Barack Obama is absolutely the worst president this country has ever had. He should be ashamed his despicable anti-American actions. I call for the immediate impeachment of this president who is so obviously delusional his actions threaten the well being of the USA. He is waging war against the citizens of the USA and guess what, we are going to fight back.

  • richard

Stand up and fight so we can end the war on the people of this great country.

  • Michael

Just like excpected, guys it’s not Obamas choice i beleive, it’s the real OWNERS of the country who own the big pharma… if weed got legal, it would kill a lot of drugs wich are not needed (because marijuana is medicine).

Illegal marijuana today, is just as absurd as people beleiving in the US government to do anything right. They only want to start new wars on something, and fuck things more up.

  • dbolen

Obama is a coward ass president who has no war experience. This guy needs to be thrown from his thrown and fed to china. Stand up America for are rights, for are Freedom, For are Country.

    Hey, here’s an idea… How about #OccupyPotShops?

In 45 days all medical marijuana patients surround their local pot shop to block the feds!???

  • GuerrillaNoise

The only reason pot was made illegal in the first place was the corporations didnt want it interfering with their timber & chemical products’ bottom lines. once you understand that its not a stretch at all to say that the corporations currently being protested world wide could have had an influence in these very oddly timed actions by the president. especially right after the fast & furious fiasco the DoJ just pulled & got away with. wouldnt this create more business for those cartels we are trying to shut down? oh wait bigger cartels means bigger military/police state which means more money into the prison & arms corporations who also happen to be major political contributors. follow where the money goes its not difficult at all these smug bastards dont even bother covering their trails cus the populace is too blind to bother with…

I would agree with getting rid of Obama over this, but it could be A LOT WORSE with the GOP in the White House! Also the headline makes it sound like the feds are going after the entire MJ industry, yet the article says ’16 shops’. Maybe these 16 are actually in violation? Critical thinking, folks – not knee jerk reaction is needed here I think.

  • Common Sense

Only 16… aren’t there like thousands of pot shops in California? So about 0.005% of pot shops got letters? I heard the ones that got letters were within 1000 feet of a school…. Think about it

  • oneamericanmale

I don’t understand why Obama is doing this before election time… If they stop the Prohibition on marijuana, Tax it and let farmers grow hemp for textiles, bio fuel, paper, oil from the seeds made into hand cream to bio fuel.. but then we wouldn’t need to cut down trees , or the oil companies , and yes the adult beverage companies would do less business. So it shows where Obama head is at….. Voted for him but not this time. Big Busniess

  • DS

Every place that got a letter needs to send a letter back reminding him that the state decided it was ok and the feds don’t legally have any power to stop us. Might also point out that he’s assisted in bankrupting this country and can’t afford to pay for the raids. The prisons can’t afford any more prisoners(because they’re already full of innocent people and people charged with ridiculous/petty crimes like marijuana offenses). They also need to post armed guards to protect their property from the government. Hell is they want war, i say give it to them. Protect your rights with force if necessary. It is your right and responsibility to protect your own rights, the government certainly doesn’t want you to have any and will do everything that they can to take as many rights from us as they can. The only way to stop this ridiculously corrupted government is a revolution, which the lazy complacent United States will never do.

First of all I completely support legalization of marijuana. And appreciate the work the 420 times does.

However I thinks it’s way over simplified to straight up blame only Obama for this recent spate of attacks on MMJ. After all it was his attorney general that last year said that the Feds would not be persuing shops that followed state law. The cause for this change in direction, I don’t know, but there’s a lot of other people calling the shots other than him.

I too wish he would be vocal about a change in the drug laws, but being realistic you gotta understand how politically toxic taking a stand on that would be.

And do you think it would be any better with someone more conservative in office? Maybe a libertarian, but I just believe in ot giving a shit about anyone but my self like they do.

    Peace

This article fails to mention that all of these shops were closed for being within 1000 feet of a school zone, I agree the war on marijuana is unfair but would you put a liquor store 1000 feet from a school?

  • Dominic Calabrese

“It’s odd that The Obama Administration can’t seem to stand up to Republicans or foreign countries”

This statement is so full of FAIL!!! Many Republicans support full legalization of bud. Hell everyone I know who wants to keep it illegal are DEMOCRATES!!!

It is also statements like this that keep it illegal! Tom Tancredo has been trying to get it legal in Colorado for years and his biggest opposition has been legalize it groups and Democrats!!

This is why I can never support legalization groups like this or 420 times. Because you only support communist/nazi assholes. And I fucking HATE Communist and NAZI’S!

  • SSR

Guys, those 16 shops are being shut down because they’re within 1000ft of a school. That’s it. They’d be going after all of the clubs if they really were “declaring open war”.

  • Dave

“they can find the backbone to go after sick people in California”

    Yeah except this what is really happening;

“In an indictment unsealed this week, prosecutors say six people who operated the store distributed 600 to 700 pounds of marijuana a month and shipped it to affiliates in New York and Pennsylvania. Federal agents who searched the store’s former location, now the Green Camel Collective, on Wednesday found 23 pounds of marijuana, a pound of hashish and two 16-year-old boys smoking marijuana, Birotte said.”

Anyone thinking one guy is behind the mmj backlash needs to pull their head out of their ass and do a little reading. While he’s certainly done the industry no good, and realistically been worse for mmj users than even bush. President Obama is fairly powerless on this and most issues. Evidently the author of this article is still under the impression that politicians are still the ones making our laws.

  • JvanMT

Reading the comments it would appear many of you recognize, like me, this isn’t the doing of one man. Perhaps there is hope after all.

Do some research on the businesses you support. Do they drug test their employees? Do they contribute to political campaigns, and which ones? Nothing will change until we start going after those directly responsible for prohibition, those that profit from it.

This might hold a little more credibility if you ran spell check first. Were you high when you wrote it?

I really really like AAAAANDRE’s idea.

I think the Feds are adding fuel to an already flaming fire here in this country… I am just pretty naive and haven’t quite figured out why??? yet………

This two part plan is the only action the citizens of the US need to take to end federal marijuana prohibition:
    1) EVERYONE that sees these links sign up at both sites and weigh in on the debate
    - http://pvox.co/CdiFqY
    2) Propagate those two links and ensure that everyone that sees them go to both those sites.

Too many people are blaming the President for enforcing the federal marijuana prohibition. Contact Congress (the LEGISLATIVE branch [that's the important one when it comes to law]) via the first link. Contact Obama (the EXECUTIVE branch [until Obama vetos a passed H.R. 2306 it's on Congress - but tell Obama anyway]) via the second link. It really is THAT easy. Participate in democracy!

Jesus said to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. None of us would want our child thrown in jail with the sexual predators over marijuana. None of us would want to see an older family member’s home confiscated and sold by the police for growing a couple of marijuana plants for their aches and pains. It’s time to stop putting our own family members in jail over marijuana.
If ordinary Americans could grow a little marijuana in their own back yards, it would be about as valuable as home-grown tomatoes. Let’s put the criminals out of business and get them out of our neighborhoods. Let’s let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.

I used to own and operate two medical dispensaries in spokane, wa. well that is of no more. These agents of the government, are blood thirsty, young, and very dumb. Not to mention the fact, they will shoot you dead, DEAD, without right to due process. The one problem I see with the MMJ community is that they are stoned all the time. Seriously, this was my observation, in the two yrs I ran the shops. Organization is needed and needed now. We need to hit them where it hurts, and unfortunatly it is also expensive. I am talking about LAWYERS, We need to pool our money and get a team together to change the laws federally circumventing the lobbyist, which I might add, is an un american concept. Enjoy your freedom, hope it lasts. Obama wants to take it all away and lock you up. Oh, and I put my left nut on the block, betting phillip/morris, and RJ/reynolds has something to do with this. And the pharmacuticals too? PUFF TUFF, get organized and do it now.
