Please support HJR 1407 to legalize medical use of cannabis. This legislation is long overdue and will eventually prevail as it has in many other states. Being a registered republican, I support this type of legislation as it gives people a choice when faced with illness and gives our patients an opportunity to try a solution that is not addictive or life threatening. The only negative side effect of cannabis use, that I can tell, is that one can get complacent about life and possibly not thrive to better ones self with continued use. Complacency is a minor issue when compared to the addiction and deaths that result from perscribed meds like Oxycontin, Methadone and Percocet. When we get right down to it, we are talking about a natural herb to treat an illness. The natural benefits of cannabis are many, as I’m sure you know. Please support this and be a pioneer of a movement that will eventually be passed in all states and encourage others to be forward thinkers with respect to this natural pain relief solution.

  • Ron

Florida has the some of the most severe laws against marijuana; People are serving long prison sentences for simple possession. We need to spend our tax dollars on more important issues such as our children’s education! Please everyone vote based on the Truth, not propaganda. The truth is that marijuana can help very sick people feel better. This fact is now acknowledged by the Government and the most prominent medical associations in America.

  • michelle

I have MS and am going to be taking my family to Disney. Is there any way for me to get something while I’m there? I was going to drive down so I could take my meds with me but we’ve decided to fly last minute.

  • Greg

I am a veteran of OIF and have severe Ptsd. I can only pray that it becomes legal in florida, because the prescription drugs the VA gave me make sick and don’t work. I’m voting Yes and i Hope everyone else does as well, even if you don’t agree with legalizing it i ask you to vote yes as well, becuase it isn’t just about legalizing a medicinal plant, it’s also about not letting the government control our freedom to do what we want. What is freedom if your government tells you what you can do?

  • http://facebook Evron

Its just a plant government and people really need this,14 other states are regulating and taxing so why can’t we do the same

  • Candace

This has been a long time coming.

  • Jim

I have a perscription for percoset. I DO NOT like taking it. I have found that medical marijuana helps in relieving my pain so I do not have to take the percoset. I do not want to be addicted to a drug like percoset. I have been there and it in no fun at all.

PLEASE VOTE TO ALLOW MEDICAL MARIJUANA IN FLORIDA.

  • Northwest Opinion

We came real close this past month in Washington State of having marijuana dispensaries however the federal government led by Obama, contiues to place pressure on the states. The feds make threats saying they intend on arresting and charging state workers that may be linked to this process. They are going state-by-state busting clinics and dispensaries. Medical marijuana is legal here, however you cant get it in a legal manner, and it only allows you to grow marijuana. They can still bust you, and the medical card is only a defense with regard to your arrest. The Governor signed a veto after being strong-armed by the Obama administration to keep it illegal. Florida will end in the same result until which time the federal government agrees to a legal path. We had people standing by to open full-time stores with several strains of marijuana behind the counter. The state was ready to hire growers and collect hundreds of millions of tax dollars.

  • Jr

Its bout damn time!! Vote yes!!!!!

  • tommy

it would be better for florida to ban oxycodone & other “highly” addictive pain killer pills here lol, then they would be able 2 legalize medicinal cannabis for people in need of natural medicine

  • Joseph

Marijuana is the only so called “drug” that is not a man made substance. The most negative thing associated with marijuana is getting caught. So what is wrong with our governments perception when alcohol fills our stores and pot heads fill our jails. The fact is it will do a lot more good than harm. There are so many people out there in pain that need this. So be present when the time comes and vote yes.

  • MIchael

This bill is Indefinitely postponed and withdrawn from consideration Saturday, May 07, 2011 12:01 AM. It didnt take long to shoot this bill down.

  • skunkyfingers

The only way this will get on the ballot is with a signature ballot by the people. If someone steps up and collects the needed signatures, then it will pass. Don’t hold your breath waiting for anyone in office in Florida too step up and put it on the ballot, because that will not happen.

  • sam

ok guys if you want this to pass please go to pufmm.org and print out the form to mail in please sign it and send a donation as well although they have won the battle this time we will win this war!

  • Phil

Great for the taxpayers. Bad for the criminals!! Vote Yes for medical marijuana.

    Why Marijuana is Illegal
    By: Mike Mann
Cannabis was made federally illegal in the U.S. in 1937with the passage of the Marihuana Tax Act, although, Cannabis was the basis for almost every patent medicine prior to the discovery of aspirin. Critics say legalizing marijuana will lead to further drug abuse and the possible legalization of harsher drugs, medical marijuana should be available as an alternative to prescription pain killers. The AMA policy on marijuana stated: “The AMA opposes legalization of the sale and possession of marijuana, and recommends that it be prohibited for public use and also supports the modification of state laws to reduce the severity of penal-ties for possession of marijuana. The AMA recommends that personal possession of insignificant amounts be considered a mis-demeanor and advocates increased research into the effects of marijuana.” (American Medical Association,1989). Those who oppose the move say well what about the kids, they will have easier access to the drug. This what The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) noted in its Aug. 24, 2004 website article titled “Marijuana and Teens: Fact Sheet”:
“Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug among America’s youth. Among kids who use drugs, approximately 60 percent use marijuana only. Of the 14.6 million past month marijuana users in 2002, about one third, or 4.8 million persons, used it on 20 or more days in the past month. Between 1991 and 2001, the percentage of 8th graders who used marijuana doubled from one in ten to one in five. From 2001 to 2003, current marijuana use declined 11 percent. This is the first decline in youth drug use of such a magnitude in more than a decade. Kids are using marijuana at an earlier age. In the late 1960s fewer than half of those using marijuana for the first time were under 18. By 2001, about two-thirds (67 percent) of marijuana users were younger than 18.” (Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), Aug. 24, 2004)
Making marijuana legal, taxing and controlling it, and regulating it would keep it away from kids and give the government more control over the drug (Nadelmann, E., 2002). Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger said in 2009 “it’s time for a debate on legalizing marijuana”. Joycelyn Elders, MD, former US Surgeon General, wrote in a Mar. 26, 2004 editorial pub-lished in The Providence Journal: “That fear [that medical marijuana laws will increase teen use of marijuana], raised in 1996, when California passed the first effective medical-marijuana law, has not come true. According to the official California Stu-dent Survey of marijuana use in California rose steadily from 1990 to 1996, but began falling immediately after the medical-marijuana law was passed. Among ninth graders, marijuana use in the last six months fell by more than 40 percent from 1995-96 to 2001-02 (the most recent available figures).” (Elders, J. MD, Mar. 26, 2004). use. Federal Law claims that marijuana is a drug with of no medicinal value, but for many patients in the 14 states where marijuana is de- criminalized marijuana is the drug of choice for cancer, and aids patients. Patients claim marijuana can heal a variation of ailments with no side effects, ver-sus the liver toxic chemicals prescribed by the physicians who work for the pharmaceutical companies. Dr. Michael J. Morris M.D. stated “letting people get in touch with earth’s, and nature’s miracles is the greatest reward of all”. President Obama said in April of 2008 “Medical marijuana in the same way with the same controls as other drugs prescribed by doctors is entirely appropriate.
    .
Why is marijuana illegal? Because the so-called bureaucrats that claim this a free country also say that You, me, and whoever else thinks that they are a free American can’t have in our possession, utilize, or grow marijuana. Why? Doesn’t it grow from a seed, like all other god-given fruits and vegetables.
Why? Because they can’t patent Marijuana like all the other man-made pharmaceuticals.
Why? Because most city and state governments don’t know how to tax marijuana.
Why? Because if they did, maybe we would all experience our true freedom, to do responsibly as we choose..

It is time for a change. It is time for Americans to wake up and realize the tyranny of the government of which we and our constitutional rights have been thrown in the trash and suppressed under our so-called democracy. I thought our fore-fathers fought for a Republic, in which the people had the power, not the government. Is this not why we first landed at Plymouth Rock? What has happened to the fighting spirit we as Americans are known across the globe for? Standng up for what we believe in.. We have the power, not the government… We must abandon this state of fear. We must remember Boston, We must remember the Revolution… We must stand up. Give me life, liberty, or give me death, this is our tradition, this must be our slogan and motto. Give me life, liberty, or give me death, and then you can pry my marijuana from my cold dead hands.

  • Amanda

I hope to god this gets passed, I have a broken spine from when I gave birth, smoking is the only thing so far that has helped me with the pain, I rather smoke then pop pills like candy everyday. But also now that the new law passed where if u have drugs in your system everyone on your insurance gets canceled for a year, I hvent smoked in 3 months I’m in serious pain and there’s nothing I can do, I don’t want to loose insurance for my son :(

  • Daniel Robaina

I rally behind this 100% Florida law makers are way to scared to stick their necks out. I’m glad somebody did, and have a real potential to pass. I have family that is a veteran, and he witnessed a tank get blown up and he heard three of his closest friends scream on the radio while they were burned alive. This man has 100% PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome) and the only way he can coupe with his pain is to smoke. The differance is night and day. Please don’t believe the propaganda and the myths that it kills brain cells. In some studies it has actually shown to improve brain cell development. We need to find a way to broadcast this to a wider audience though. Because I’m pretty sure everybody is here because they smoke. CBS, ABC, Local news stations here we come. Call your local representative today to see if he/she can help though.

  • sdavis13

Just tell me where to research the guidelines so I can get a lisence to grow it

  • Dash Toit

I will support ANY measure to end cannabis prohibition. The facts are clear. After 20 years of fairly regular use, I do not use ANY hard drugs, almost never drink, and only use otc painkillers when medical cannabis is not available. So much for this B/S gateway drug nonsense and the lies the gov’t and the DEA like to spread.

And, perhaps more importantly, people have the right to choose their own medications. Tobacco and alcohol kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people every year. Who funds the anti-cannabis organizations? Alcohol and tobacco companies, to a large extent!

  • EDM

Gotta love how no one would shut the hell up and listen. It’s like “yeah, I guess we HAVE to let little Ricky our developmentally disabled cousin speak…” Complete ignorance.

  • Smokey McPott

the government needs to stop bullshitting and just completely legalize it. if i were completely legal the crime rate would drop drastically and it could quite possibly pull us out of this economic crisis over night. come on obama pull your head out of your ass and do something about it.

  • Paolo

So this was not passed. Does anyone know when another House Joint Resolution or Bill will try and get passed?

  • http://www.ronpaul2012.com/ Truth

I live in Fla and I pledge to you ANY country that’s warm, that legalizes marijuana for any reason will see my move our multi-million dollar revenue generating business out of the land of the free ( cough cough ) and into there country. I will personally fire every worker and contractor and hire theres. Fk me and I’ll fk you right back.
Any countries out there hurting for money see the opportunity here? They already chased business out of the US with it;s confiscatory taxes and impossible regulations to the point where it’s easier to do business in COMMUNIST CHINA while the US bombs yet another country ( borrowing the money to do so ).
Bye bye adios as soon as a level headed government does the right thing.

  • Art

Why the dishonesty? Medical marijuana, ..loling all the way to the dorites..its a miracle..i can walk..ty jerry garcia.

medical my blood shot eye..call it what it should be..

    LIBERTY

  • Art

The government will NEVER EVER voluntarily diminish its own power or control.

  • William

PEOPLE PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS.

I want to start by saying I don’t smoke marijuana. I also want to make it clear from the start I am a very strong supporter of medical marijuana in Florida.

I think it’s time the people tell the government their tired of them making decisions for them. All the drugs out their and they make marijuana out to be one of the worst, and they preach this to our people and our kids. What they fail to explain and tell us is marijuana never killed anyone. Have you ever heard of anyone dying from smoking pot. If you compare marijuana too alcohol, meth, heroin, cocaine, even prescription pain killers it’s a fairly harmless drug.

If the people in the US don’t stand against these politicians and government officials things like this will continue. The sad part is half the one who lobby against this do it themselves.

  • surabi
