Professor Takes On Dr. Oz Over Medical Marijuana

Dr. Oz is a well-known heart surgeon and has his own daytime talk show produced by Oprah’s company. He covers a lot of medical questions in his shows, many of which he is far from an expert on. And it seems Dr. Oz takes his ill-formed opinions beyond his talk show; like a article he recently wrote on the subject of medical cannabis. A Pharmacology & Toxicology professor took issue with Dr. Oz’s article and wrote a response.
Dr. Phil Leveque takes on the article point by point and dismantles it quite well.
Marijuana/Cannabis does cause vasodilation and recent medical articles indicate it IS good for high blood pressure. It is excellent for diabetic neuropathy which is very painful. It has been found useful for Alzheimers rage.
Marijuana/Cannabis has effectively supplemented many standard pharmaceuticals (search my article Marijuana Replaces Many Drugs).
You refer to Marijuana Carcinogens. Using a vaporizer eliminates them producing beneficial medicine ONLY. Tobacco kills millions. Marijuana never killed anybody.
Modern U.S. medical literature sponsored & paid for by U.S. Government prints only bad stuff about Cannabis. I have about 5000 Medical Marijuana patients and none ever reported anything about heart attacks. As far as “brain drain” is concerned it is a mild inebriant, call it tipsy. I had about 50 Multiple Sclerosis patients. They prefer it to ANY other medicine.
Many people watch Dr. Oz’s show, and I’m sure a good percentage of them see him as an expert on all things medical. So when he spouts off about medical marijuana, there are many that will take his word as medical gospel. But Dr. Oz is a heart surgeon and talk show host. He has a specialty, and it’s not medical cannabis.
Luckily the Internet allows anyone to refute anyone else. People like Dr. Oz aren’t the only ones with a voice; the new media has voices too, and we are one of them.

I use medical marijuana, and it helps me sleep at night, and then in the morning i’ll use a different strain of marijuana to help with pain, stress, and anxiety.

Dr. Oz showed an obvious bias for marijuana as medicine for physical pain, but insisted he does not support it’s use for ANY kind of mental pain. During the show it was mentioned that the US military recently OK-ed medical marijuana for PTSD (for vets living in states where medical marijuana is legal) – a mental condition characterized by anxiety, yet Dr. Oz purported that marijuana does not help ease stress or anxiety. Dr. Donald Abrams tried to correct Dr. Oz, but was hushed.
