Are Police Checkpoints Illegal?

Police throughout the country are going to be setting up “no refuse” checkpoints in an attempt to catch drunk drivers this New Year’s eve. Basically, if a cop thinks you are under the influence and refuse a breathalyzer test, there will be a judge on site who can issue a warrant for a blood test.
Many people – including myself – have trouble seeing how the government stopping your car and sticking a needle in your arm isn’t a violation of the driver’s rights. Of course it’s all in the name of safety; but so are most draconian government measures.
What do you all think? Are these checkpoints an illegal violation of our constitutional rights?
