The Medical Marijuana “Sham?”

In my daily perusal of cannabis news I came across this story about CA Prop 19. The following quote really stood out to me.
“Well, an intoxicant does make people feel euphoric, in fact it’s part of the pathway to addiction, it doesn’t mean there’s medical Jack Daniels, or medical meth, or medical crack or medical heroin,” said John Walters of The Hudson Institute. “This is a sham.”
A more ignorant statement has rarely been made. First of all, comparing the cannabis plant to alcohol or crack on an “apples-to-apples” basis is devoid of all logic. Of course, anyone who has heard of John Walters knows he is himself devoid of logic.
He basically wants us to believe that Jack Daniels, meth, crack, heroin, and cannabis are all made of the same substances. A grade school child knows this not to be the case, but John Walters fails to grasp this simple concept.
The medicinal properties of the cannabis plant have been well-documented and can be attested to by millions of people. The same cannot be said – obviously – of alcohol, meth, heroin, or crack.
Men like John Walters are exactly what’s wrong with this country. Ignorant people in positions to spout off stupidity to the media and affect public policy.
