istockweed education small NORML National Conference In Portland, ORNORML’s 39th annual convention is being held this year in Portland, Oregon. Oregon has the largest chapter of NORML in the country with over 2,200 members, and the state also has a medical marijuana dispensaries measure on the ballot this fall.

This weekend hundreds of activists, writers, and speakers will gather as they gear up – not only for Oregon’s important vote – but for the vote on CA Prop 19 which also takes place on November 2nd.

Democratic Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Portland will speak Thursday to the convention. Friday’s keynote address Friday will come from former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, an outspoken Republican advocate for medical marijuana and drug-law reform. Travel writer and TV show host RickSteves, who has long argued for marijuana legalization, also speaks Friday.

For almost 40 years NORML has been at the forefront of the cannabis law reform movement and are one of the main organizations responsible for the amazing strides we have made. This year’s convention will also have discussions of cannabis’ prospects in elections this fall and “women and cannabis.”

Organizations like NORML need our continued support if they are going to continue the great work they do for the marijuana legalization movement.
