Daycare Worker Finds Marijuana In Baby’s Diaper

A Texas man has been arrested after a daycare worker found a baggie of marijuana in one of his daughter’s unused diapers. He told police he had forgotten he’d hid the cannabis in there.
Hiding weed in anything belonging to your children is not the brightest idea. If you think the police won’t search your child’s possessions if they raid your home, you’re sorely mistaken. Meaning your stash will be found by someone no matter what. Wouldn’t you assume an unused diaper is going to get used if you have a baby?
Something else struck me about this story; the man was charged with “abandoning or endangering a child.” I realize there probably isn’t a specific charge called “leaving marijuana in a minor’s diaper,” but was his daughter really “endangered?” I’ll be the first to admit this guy’s stupidity, but a charge like that on your record can have dire consequences. His daughter could be taken from him; I realize that some of you would agree the child should be taken, but if being dumb disqualified someone from being a parent, most of the world’s children would be orphans.
Separating a child from its natural parent is a life-altering change. It must always be approached with caution, and I don’t see finding cannabis in a diaper as grounds for that kind of change.
