This past Monday the hit Showtime series “Weeds” returned with their sixth season. I’ve waited until now to do my review of the first episode since many people don’t see the episodes until they watch them on DVR, On Demand, or they download them from the internet – or watch the full episode below. I don’t want to spoil the shows for anyone, so hopefully you’ve had enough time to see it.

Season 6 picked up where season 5 left off – namely, Shane Botwin has just whacked Pilar in the dome with a croquet mallet and she is dead before she splashes into the pool. In his defense she was talking about killing him and his brother Silas, so it was quasi-self defense. I must say though, Shane’s penchant for speaking as if he’s in an episode of “Dawson’s Creek” became really creepy after he just killed someone.

Nancy Botwin is now forced on the run – yet again – leaving her husband and home behind. But her motherly instincts kicked in moments after Shane’s murder of Pilar, and she was grabbing the murder weapon and loading everyone into the car. Silas is mad because he came late into the incident and doesn’t have time to get his belongings. But he is an adult now, and frankly used to his mother’s crazy life, so he takes his fate stoically and drives the getaway car, since Nancy has been downing liquor while gathering her stuff and the new baby.

Realizing she’ll need “a bigger boat” for her family’s getaway, Nancy goes to Andy’s fiance’s house in Ren Mar so she can get his van. Alanis Morissette plays Andy’s fiance, and while I really don’t care for her acting skills, she serves her purpose in the plot by putting Andy back where he belongs – on the run with Nancy and the kids.

Meanwhile Pilar’s body has been discovered, and the information begins it’s travel up the chain of command to Esteban.

Toward the end there is a poignant moment when Nancy is driving Andy’s van to where ever the Botwin’s are running to. She looks in the rear view mirror and watches Shane for a moment. Maybe she is realizing that her actions have taught her kids the skills of survival; maybe she taught them a little too well. Or maybe she is just sad because Shane obviously isn’t a child anymore.

It’s shaping up to be a crazy season on “Weeds,” and I’ll be here every week of new episodes with another review. Subscribe to The 420 Times feed so you don’t miss a thing.

Thanks! I just love this show. For me, it’s a cross between Sons of Anarchy and It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia. lol Glad you will be posting the series here, I will definitely be checking in on it. ;)
