Prop 19 On The McLaughlin Group

Below is a video of an interesting debate on California Proposition 19 on PBS’s “McLaughlin Group.” The guy from U.S. News & World Report (that magazine is still around?) trots out the classically flawed “gateway drug” theory as if it is fact. On the contrary it is dis-proven by drug use numbers all over the world, including this country; most cannabis users never move on to “harder drugs.”
It is a compelling video all the same, and includes a recap of Senator Jim Webb’s (D-VA) bill on reforming the criminal justice system and the war on drugs.

Mort Zuckerman: “anybody who knows anything about it knows it’s the gateway drug.”
Let me tell you a little secret about “the nation’s newspaper”, USA Today….It’s a conservative fish wrapper, written at a calculated sixth-grade level, with lots of bright color pictures with captions, and not alot of pesky words. It is able to claim the top circulation of any newspaper in America for one reason and one reason only: The clever Morty has exclusive deals with major hotels and motel chains, to distribute his paper free of charge to guests. Right….nobody actually READS that cat box liner, it is purchased in bulk by other corporations.
To listen to Mort Zuckerman on any issue is to get the unaldulterated, distilled Corporate version. From actually having read USA Today on occasion, I wouldn’t put much stock in Mort’s fact-checking ability.
He’s a business man who’se job it is to promote policies favored by other businessmen. End of story….Oh…and just as a refresher, Pat Buchannon and Monica Crowley were BOTH part of Nixon’s Whitehouse, so the War on drugs is their baby. (I know, she looks too young…she drinks the blood of virgins and sleeps in a coffin to stay that way.)
