istockjoint 2 small3 No Marijuana For Patients Arrested In Michigan RaidsA judge in Oakland County, MI has ruled that patients arrested in a recent series of raids cannot medicate with cannabis while they are out on bond. The decision brought a round of hissing from the 13 defendants in the courtroom.

The defendants’ pre-trial conferences, scheduled for today, were postponed until Oct. 7 for most of them, and until later in October for a few, because prosecutors had not yet shared all of their information with defense attorneys. Another four people arrested in the raid have not yet been arraigned, and weren’t present today in court, officials said.

So basically these people – who are supposedly innocent until proven guilty – cannot use their medication for however long prosecutors decide to stall? How is that in any way fair? It’s becoming clear that many in authority in MI don’t respect or abide by the state’s medical marijuana law. They don’t care about sick people, or the will of the voters in Michigan.

Authorities in many states use the ambiguity in their medical marijuana laws as an excuse to ignore them. We must have clear laws in every state, outlining patients rights. Otherwise they will end up with no rights at all.

I want to join any group that is willing to fight city bans on marijuana medication. The citizens voted and passed a law in the state of Michigan. Are there no rights for patients? What right do city officials have to deny meds to Michigan residents? Come on Lawyers, Lets see some justice. Also if federal law trumps state law then why should we vote on anything on a state level? It is insanity.
