Facebook Pulled Libertarian Party Marijuana Leaf Ads In July

It’s official; Facebook has quite a problem with the marijuana leaf symbol. Last month the social media colossus agreed to run ads from the Libertarian Party featuring a marijuana leaf. A few days later, the ad’s clearance was revoked.
So Facebook doesn’t like us. They can get in a very long line. But the question becomes, what can we do? Facebook is so big – and while I agree they have a right to run what ads they want – we also have a right to make them pay for that decision.
The obvious solution would be a “Facebook for cannabis users.” There are a ton of them on the net, but none has risen above the rest. Facebook is entrenched in the lives of many people, but so was Myspace. Giants can be toppled. The only question is: who will replace them?

The Libertarian Party is suggesting that people temporarily replace their picture on Facebook with the graphic that was censored. Go to http://www.lp.org to get a copy.
