Marijuana Law Confusion In MA

An interesting story comes to us today from the state of Massachusetts. Though a new law has decriminalized marijuana possession in Falmouth, MA, making it a non-criminal citation with a $100 fine – there is nothing on the books that says what happens if people don’t pay their fine.
“There is no specific provision in the law with regard to (decriminalization) that says if you don’t pay then the following shall occur,” said Edward Teague, clerk magistrate at Falmouth District Court. “There is no enforcement mechanism in the law.”
Police write the tickets, said Falmouth Police Chief Anthony Riello, but “after that it’s out of our hands.”
If only all marijuana laws were like this. I’m sure this error will be rectified by the town of Falmouth as soon as possible; after all, that’s a lot of $100 bills going down the drain, and in this economy, no town or city can afford that.
