During a recent marijuana garden raid in Napa County, California, police shot and killed a man who had drawn his own gun but had not fired.

Jose Luis Martinez Chavez, 38, refused to comply with shouted orders from law enforcement before being shot, authorities.

First of all, this is a tragic situation that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. This man had a gun drawn, defending his property; the cops felt threatened and used their power to kill. My question is, why are we shooting each other over plants?

What is the need for police to be on this man’s property?

Chavez was one of two men encountered by members of a state-led, multi-agency task force who had hiked into a pair of rural grows Wednesday, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said.

So because this man was growing marijuana, he is now dead? Is that in any way reasonable? We expect gun battles during bank robberies or hostage situations. Why are people dying over plants? Our priorities are completely off-kilter in this country, and the chickens are coming home to roost, as the saying goes. People are fed up with this craziness.

Whether the people of CA are fed up enough will be determined this November.
