In line with their efforts to raise awareness of and push medical marijuana into mainstream American dialogue, The 420 Times, Southern California’s magazine of medical marijuana and natural healing, has enlisted to sponsor HempCon 2010.

HempCon 2010 is a medical marijuana convention to be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center between February 19 and 21. A wide range of businesses will convene for three days to network and share their services with the rest of the members of the medical marijuana community.

Among the various types of exhibitors expected to attend are medical marijuana dispensaries, collectives, caregivers, evaluation services, legal services, and more.

“HempCon is not only a great opportunity for businesses in the medical marijuana industry to get to know each other, but the event itself brings legitimacy to the industry as a whole,” noted David Brian, editor of The 420 Times. “And achieving legitimacy is an important part of what The 420 Times is trying to do.”

Scheduled to deliver keynote addresses at HempCon 2010 are two well-known Southern Californian medical marijuana activists, Cheryl Shuman and Frederic Rhoades, who are the Executive Director and Director of Operations of Beverly Hills NORML, respectively.

Also speaking at the event will be various public medical marijuana figures and educators such as Mieko Hester Perez and Don Duncan. Attendees can also expect to enjoy performances from various entertainers.

Those interested in attending can buy tickets online: http://hempcon.com/get-involved/tickets/ — thousands of people are expected!

One thing is for sure, this is a “con”.

After advertising $15 admission fee at the door, the promoters decided to practice leagal scalping by jacking Sundays (9/12) door fee to $20 at the LA convention center. The LA convention center site has the earlier rate ($13/$15), but the Hempcon folks “fixed” their site to reflect the increase….. on Sunday! WHAT!!???

This may be allowed. legally, but is demonstrates a promoter that lacks ethics.

These types of “operators” are giving hemp a bad name and shows a lack of morals using this “bait and switch” tactic.
