According to California state law as determined by California Senate Bill 420, patients or caregivers “can own up to 6 mature or 12 immature plants per patient” and “can possess up to eight ounces of dried marijuana per patient.”

However, there are a handful of localities that have marijuana cultivation and possession laws that differ from state laws. They are the following:

– Arcata
– Butte Co.
– Calaveras Co.
– Del Norte Co.
– El Dorado Co.
– Humboldt Co.
– Mendocino Co.
– Nevada Co.
– Oakland
– San Diego
– San Francisco
– Santa Cruz
– Sonoma Co.
– Tehama Co.
– Trinity Co.
