Smoking marijuana will make you go crazy! Well, we know it won’t; but that’s what Reefer Madness attempted to teach its viewers.
Reefer Madness was a movie released on January 15, 1936. The movie was intended to be a morality tale teaching parents of the dangers of marijuana use. However, largely due to its exaggerated and ridiculous portrayals of marijuana use, the movie has since risen to ironic cult-status.
The movie, originally entitled Tell Your Children, was originally financed by a small church group. After its filming, the movie was purchased by director Dwain Esper, who re-cut the film to be released in the exploitation film circuit.
Grab some popcorn, a few friends, and enjoy Reefer Madness!
